This homemade frozen yogurt tastes just like the one from your favorite frozen yogurt shop! It’s smooth & creamy and ready to eat in under 25 minutes!

Homemade frozen yogurt tastes so fresh and is the perfect healthy and refreshing treat for any hot summer day!
A few years ago, we had a frozen yogurt shop very close to where I live. Unfortunately, the shop has been closed. They sold a frozen yogurt that tasted heavenly, with different flavors to choose from as well as an impressive selection of toppings to pick from. I remember me and my husband sitting on a comfortable wooden platform in front of the shop savoring our pretty frozen yogurt creations in the sun.
My pick would usually include strawberries and blueberries, as well as mini Smarties, mini marshmallows, and chopped chocolate.
As soon as I purchased my own ice cream maker, it has been my goal to create a frozen yogurt at home that tastes just like the one from that frozen yogurt place, and here we are. This homemade version hits the spot. It’s smooth, creamy, and so delicious.

And moreover, homemade frozen yogurt is so easy and quick to make. It will take you less than 25 minutes from start to finish to enjoy your own homemade frozen yogurt. But first, let’s get into the ingredients used to make the perfect frozen yogurt.
Homemade Frozen Yogurt Ingredients
My homemade frozen yogurt recipe requires just 4 ingredients.
The secret of making the best frozen yogurt at home is to use both plain yogurt and Greek yogurt. Using the combination creates the best taste. Low-fat alternatives work, but do not substitute nonfat yogurt. You can substitute plain yogurt for the Greek yogurt, and vice versa. The higher the fat content, the creamier your frozen yogurt will be. I have also noticed that a higher fat content shortens the processing time in the ice cream maker.
As for sweetening, I use a combination of granulated sugar and liquid sweetener. I have tried to keep the amount of sweetener to a minimum in order to make it healthy and to achieve the perfect balance of sweet and tart. You can also use liquid sweetener only, and of course you can reduce the amount of sweetener even further. Basically, it depends on whether you like your froyo sweet or tart. Adding honey is really good in terms of taste, but be sure to use a neutral-flavored one.
How to Make Homemade Frozen Yogurt
To make frozen yogurt, you’ll start by whisking together the yogurts, sugar, and honey in a medium bowl until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Next, it’s time for the ice cream maker. It’s important to use an ice cream maker for the best creamy result. I am using and loving my KitchenAid ice cream maker.
With the ice cream maker on, pour in the mixture. Process according to the manufacturer’s instructions for 15-20 minutes or until thick and smooth. For the best taste and texture, enjoy straight away. (Or transfer to a container and freeze for a bit to firm up even more.) Serve plain or with toppings of your choice.
Frozen Yogurt Toppings
- Fresh fruit (like strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, mango, peach, etc)
- Chocolate chips, chopped chocolate, chocolate sprinkles, sugar sprinkles
- Oreos, Reese’s, M&Ms, Smarties, mini marshmallows, etc
- Granola, nuts, seeds, coconut
- Sauces (like chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, etc)
